GOING THE DISTANCE: three runners race to the finish in the final strech of the mile long run at the Watermelon Relays held at Shasta College.

The Watermelon Relays were held last Wednesday at Shasta College, and both West Valley and Anderson New Tech had their cross-country teams out practicing in the friendly competition.

"Everyone had a good time and this event helps the kids practice the race and also see where they are compared to others," said ANTHS Cross-Country Coach Jeff Carr.

ANTHS has ten kids on their team but only four were able to make it to the event said Carr.

West Valley had a strong showing as well. According to Coach Scott Fairley he divided his team evenly into three teams and all of them made the top six for the group of schools they were competing against.

"It was a good little warm up for us. Our kids have been training for awhile, and while this is more of a scrimmage, many said they had butterflies," said Fairley.
