Cottonwood teen arrested after crashing car

A Cottonwood teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and felony hit-and-run after police say he ditched his car early Thursday after wrecking it on Ash Creek Road outside Anderson.

The 16-year-old - who was not named because he is a juvenile - and passenger Joseph Garcia, 18, both fled the scene of the wreck about 3:25 a.m. south of Dersch Road, said officer Don Guy of the California Highway Patrol.

Two other teenage boys in the car were injured and remained behind.

The driver lost control of the car while going 60 mph around a right curve and slammed into a cluster of boulders, Guy said.

All the passengers, who were not wearing seat belts, were thrown from the car during the crash, Guy said. The driver had his seat belt on. Fallon Smith, 16, of Anderson hurt his back and Jordan Faulconer, 18, had cuts on his head and right arm, as well as pain in his right elbow, Guy said. Both were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Smith was not listed as a patient at Mercy on Thursday afternoon while Faulconer was in fair condition, a nursing supervisor said. The driver and Garcia were found several hours after the crash after a search that included a CHP helicopter.
