Victory is the word that comes to mind after Friday’s festivities, which started with the homecoming parade that afternoon and ended with Anderson Union High School’s football teams sweeping their games.
The freshman football team won their game against Las Plumas 21-12, followed by the junior varsity team who took their game 25-6, and then the varsity football team, who were 25-0 at the half, beat their opponents game 35-6.
Before the start of the varsity football game, the new Bob Reid Stadium was dedicated. Scott Booth, AUHS Principal talked about the centennial and also mentioned that former Anderson graduates Mark and Scott Dunton and their construction company built the new stadium. He thanked everyone involved with the planning and then introduced Tim Azevedo, the Anderson Union High School District Superintendent, who made a speech about the centennial and introduced Jeffery Taylor.
Taylor who graduated from Anderson and went on to become an attorney for the Bush Administration made a speech about what the centennial and the students meant to him and it is important for them to reach their potential at Anderson High School. Then the City of Anderson’s Mayor, Butch Schaefer, presented a declaration from the city counsel recognizing Bob Reid.
Reid then went on to give his speech about being apart of the community, coaching football, and how he wanted every student to reach their goals and go beyond them.
“The field is not made out of rocks, grass and dirt, but of dreams, blood, sweat and tears,” said Reid of the football field that bares his name.
The band and the Cub Crew sang happy birthday to the school, and then did the “Stanford Shuffle” into place to wait for the varsity teams to run through the banner.
At half time the cheerleaders performed their routine and then the homecoming queens for 2009 were presented and took their place on the field with the alumni queens standing behind them, and it was announced that Victoria Raine Tamblin is the homecoming queen for 2009.

Way to go Cubs! The freshman score was 26 to 6 not 21 to 12.
