Happy Valley Pride: September 16, 2009

Happy Valley Pride Day is almost here and we are off and running.

A lot of businesses have either given money or prizes for our event.

I want to thank the following contributors: Country Market, The Buzz, All Service Propane, Happy Stop, Bonney's Burger, Happy Valley Nursery, Discount Feed, Northern Lights energy, Graphic Emporium, Happy Valley Citizens Patrol, Happy Valley Community Foundation, Supervisor Leonardo Moty, Trenerry Berry Farm, Manning's Tree Farm, Signman Signs & More and the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Anderson.

If it were not for these businesses and organizations, Happy Valley Pride Day would neither have free T-shirts to give away nor prizes for our treasure hunt and other projects in which Pride Day is involved.

Please support them for they are valuable contributors of our community.

Happy Valley Pride Day starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Happy Valley Community Center, 5400 Happy Valley Road with coffee and sweet rolls. The first 30 people to sign up will each receive a T-shirt.

This is also where all volunteers will pick up their rules sheets for the treasure hunt, their orange trash bags and their trash grabbers.

Don't forget to bring along a supply of water, wear a hat, gloves and a sturdy pair of walking shoes. No open-toed shoes, please. It is important that all volunteers register as you need to sign in to win a prize. The grand prize is $100. We look forward to seeing all of you there.

Also, the Happy Valley Farm Trail will hold a 6 p.m. potluck on Thursday, Sept. 17, in the community center. Bring your favorite side dish, meat dish, dessert or salad.

It's time once again to join up for the next growing years. Our discussion will focus on "Growing Food Year round." You do not need to be a member of Farm Trail or even be a farmer to attend the meeting.

Finally, the Lions Club will serve breakfast from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Happy Valley Elementary School at the corner of Happy Valley Road and Palm. Tickets are $4 for adults, $2 for children. The breakfast is always delicious and it's a good time to visit with neighbors and friends. Best of all, I enjoy it because I do not have to cook or do the dishes.

The thought for the week: If the U.S. Government owned the Sahara Desert, in five years the sand would be gone."

Remember to recycle, volunteer, pray for our President, other leaders and all those who keep us safe.

Have a blessed week.
