Maryanne Lucas of California Garden Clubs, Inc., will present a certification of appreciation to the Anderson Historical Society at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, honoring the society's garden surrounding the museum at 2330 Ferry St. in Anderson.
Refreshments will be served following a brief ceremony and certificate presentation. Museum docents will be on hand to lead tours of the museum and museum's gardens.
The Anderson Valley Garden Club designed and installed the gardens that showcase a piece of a historical bridge in a zerizcape setting. The garden features California poppies, Red Bud and Shasta County native plants that provide plenty of spring color.
Museum visitors enjoy walking through the rose-covered arbor and sitting in the gazebo while looking at the numerous herbs, said Mary Lou Goodwin, who chairs the organization's landscape design council.
The historical society's garden was nominated by Anne Capes, Cascade District Director of California Garden Clubs, Inc. The nomination was seconded by Rowena Goodner, a landscape design consultant for the organization, who said the garden was "an example of good land use."
Founded in 1931, California Garden Clubs, Inc., is a non-profit incorporation of garden clubs that have a combined membership of more than 21,000.
