HV Beef Club starting Oct. 4

It's that time again for 4-H sign-ups.

The Happy Valley 4-H Beef Club will have its first meeting on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. in the Wogoman's house. We wrapped up last year very strong!

At the Shasta District Fair in June, two of our members ended up in the show and sales ring going head-to-head for the titles of Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion market steer and one of our steers won.

As for showmanship, one of our members won first place, another received third place and another was seventh in their respective classes. At the beef carcass awards, we had two steers place in the Top 10 overall for all steers at the fair for 4-H and FFA combined!

One was fifth and another was seventh out of more than 60 steers.

Another of our steers did very well also, receiving a Carcass of Merit award.

It was very good to know that we raised a quality beef product for our buyers.

At the end of the year, we had to fill out record books. Three of our members received a Gold rating at the club level, and then went on to receive beef project medals in the county competition!

Two of our members received Ag Expo medals at the annual awards ceremony for the beef project. They also received Junior Leader patches. A Gold star and All-Star patch was also given to one of our members.

All the hard work for this past 4-H year paid off as we not only raised our steers and made it to the fair, but our animal products and record keeping reflected our efforts.
