West Valley, Anderson do well in Mt. Shasta

The West Valley girl's golf team took second in their first match last Thursday at the Mt. Shasta Golf Resort with a score of 360.

Anderson Union High School is competing individually this year, because they only have two players.

"Since we only have two girls we are not able to compete in the team competition but are looking to set personal bests and hopefully qualify for the sectional individual play-offs," said Anderson High School Girls Golf Coach Seth Longnecker. "Both my girls, Whitley Gibson (sophomore) and Shannon Westmoreland (junior) are competing in their first year of high school golf. Shannon shot a 74 and Whitley shot a 75 on the front nine par 35 course. They are pumped for practice on Monday and can't wait to play next week at Tierra Oaks on Thursday."

Medallist Honors went to Brittany Andrus of Mt. Shasta with a score of 48.

"This year we have five players: Kendal Vincent (sophomore) and Carrisa Stenzel (Junior) are returning players and Kacie Laughlin (Junior), Grace Boyle (Sophomore) and Hannah Boyle (Freshman) are my new players," said WVHS Girls Golf Coach Dana Cowan. "We are young but the girls work hard and are willing. They did very good for their first match and playing one of the hardest courses in our league. At the beginning of the season I let the girls know this is a difficult sport and my main goal is for them to get to a point where they enjoy the game and to make it a lifetime sport."
