West Valley cross country sprinting to promising season

West Valley's Cross Country team held a pre-season meet last week at home against Red Bluff, before heading to an invitational in Mt. Shasta.

"During the meet against Red Bluff Forrest McBride posted one of the fastest top six times ever by a West Valley runner on our 2.2mile course. His time of 12:42 was good enough for 2nd in the meet. Foreign exchange student, Mats Welzbacher, placed 3rd in 14:10," said West Valley Cross Country Coach Scott Fairley.

At the Mt. Shasta Cross Country Invitational West Valley's varsity boys placed second behind Chico High out of 18 schools. Individually, Forrest McBride (senior) ran the 2.2-mile course in 13:24, which put him in 8th, and rounding out the top five scorers were Justin Hale 13th, Mats Welzbacher 17th, Ryan Stockton 21st, and Jacob Lucero 30th.

Corissa Storms, who won in time of 14:58, paced the West Valley varsity girls to a 4th place team finish. Storms remains undefeated so far this season. Freshman Hanna Dorman placed 4th followed by Misty Jensen 30th, Jessamyn Panza 39th, and Amanda Lund 40th.
