HARD HITTER: Amanda Richardson returns the ball to opponent Melissa Owens at last Thursday’s match at West Valley against Corning High School.

The West Valley girls tennis team won their match against Yreka, 5-4, however, lost to Corning, 7-2.

"We actually played pretty good against Corning. Amanda Richardson, Taylor Needham, Eta Ecenbarger and Amanda/Autumn Serota (doubles) had very close matches, we just couldn't get any of them to go our way," said WVHS Girls Tennis Coach Tom Wyrick. "Corning is tops in the league, so I expected the girls to play hard, and maybe we'd get a little lucky at home. It just didn't work out that way."

Needham's match against Corning High School's Victoria Owens went into a tiebreak, but she was unable to win.

Cassis DeBonis swept her two matches against Corning's Sonya Scott, 6-1, 6-0. Then DeBonis and her doubles partner, Needham, won their doubles match against Scott and her partner Melissa Owens, 8-1.
