West Valley football Coach Greg Grandell had many things to celebrate after Friday's game, not only was it his birthday, but he finally won his seeming elusive 100th game.

The Eagles had a strong showing against the Orland Trojans, winning their first game of the season bringing their record to 1-3.

West Valley senior Tyler Stevenson came up with the ball after the Trojan's receiver dropped the ball during the kick return in the final seconds of the second quarter. The Eagles were able to kick a field goal before the half making the score 31-7.

Then in the third quarter, senior Ronny Hampton scored a touchdown with a quarterback keeper followed by running back Derek Serna (senior) who scored another touchdown in the final seconds of the quarter making the score 45-7 and neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

"It feels good to get my 100th win. We did good tonight, but we still have a ways to go," said Grandell. "We make too many mistakes and we need to not get as many penalties."

According to Grandell senior Ronny Hampton is doing great as a first year quarterback and Assistant Coach Jim Burkes put Hampton in a good situation by playing to his strengths. Grandell said he would like to see better management of the game, but is proud of the team.

"We still have some growing pains, but a good foundation to build upon," said Grandell.

"It felt good to be able to give Coach Grandell his 100th win, especially on his birthday," said senior Jael Uhi. "Winning tonight was awesome and it feels really good."

Cubs lose to Sutter

The Cubs were not able to beat the Sutter Huskies on the road losing 28-6 in Friday's non-league outing.

With the loss, Anderson moves to 1-3 on the season and will travel to Winters for another non-league game on Friday.

The Warriors go into the game with a 3-1 record. In a recent non-league outingWinters won 55-6 against Vacaville Christian.

Finally! A victory for the boys over the hill. That win would have came 3 weeks sooner if greg would've looked passed his ego for once and listened to the surprisingly logical ideals of the majority of the players and those darn "Disgruntled parents". WV wont make playoffs if they keep those inexperienced LB's in. Heck Grandell preeches the inexperience of this team and he has his own dang fault to blame for it.

He's taken out a couple seniors LB's that started in that position last year and they made the championship with them. Now he's replaced them with sophomores? Even you sophomore parents who's kid is starting can see how ignorant that is.

Maybe the paper should get the FACTS of the situation before taking greg's word on the in experience of this team. BTW the record for the past 4 years (not including this season) for this inexperienced senior class is 33-12. THESE ARE FACTS. greg just has opinions of this team. his opinions are based to cover up his own faults with how he's approched coaching this team so far.
