West Valley Eagles soar in the pool

The West Valley swim team competed at home against the Yreka Miners last Wednesday and came out on top.

The Eagle boys swim team broke a six-year-old record in the 400m freestyle relay, by coming in with a time of 3:42.98. The winning team was comprised of senior Matt Bohlin, juniors Nate Espino and Brennon Shepard, and sophomore Ryan Parke.

The boys then went on to win over the Miners with a score of 129-30. Kurt Sjoberg won the 100 free in 58.11 and the 100 breaststroke 1:06.60, while Ryan Parke won the 100 back in 1:02.16. Matt Bohlin took the 100 fly and Nate Espino won the 50 free and the 200 free. Charlie McIntosh won the 200 I.M. in 2:22.40.

The West Valley girls also swam their way to the top, 129-23 over Yreka. Maddie Winton was a double winner in the 100 back and the 100 fly. Catlin Clark also pulled off two wins in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 I.M. Kim Court won the 500 free with a time of 6:22.67, while Kate Sjoberg won the 200 free in 2:28.34. Alex Szymanski won the 50 free and the 100 free.
