October is National Dental Hygiene month and parents are encouraged to bring their preschool age children to receive a free dental screening on Saturday, October 3 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Healthy Shasta's Walk This Way at Turtle Bay event.

In collaboration with First 5 Shasta and the Shasta Healthy Smiles Oral Health Program, registered dental hygienists will be screening preschool age children, conducting tooth brushing and flossing demonstrations and sharing tips for a lifetime of healthy smiles with children and parents.

Dental hygienists are oral health specialists who provide direct patient services and education on preventive measures they can do at home. Shasta County is fortunate to have dedicated dental hygiene professionals who generously donate their time to improve the oral health of Shasta County children.

For more information about the preschool dental screenings, contact Megan L. Johnson, M.P.H. at 229-8431.
