APD Officer John Nevens searches through the maroon Nissan sedan driven and abandoned by Jonathan Hill-Hawkins on West Anderson Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Anderson police this afternoon searched without success for the same burglary suspect who was arrested earlier this month after leading officers on a similar chase.

Jonathan Hill-Hawkins, 22, of Cottonwood reportedly fled officers around 2:30 p.m. today when they tried to make a traffic stop in the West Anderson Drive area.

APD Officer John Nevens attempted to pull Hill-Hawkins over for alleged speeding and vehicle registration violations, but he jumped out of the car while it still was moving and ran off, Anderson police Detective Robert Modin said. Hill-Hawkins also has eight outstanding warrants, Modin said.

Police dogs and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were sent to find Hill-Hawkins, but the search later was called off.

On Sept. 8, Hill-Hawkins was arrested after crashing his car in a chase with Anderson police, who were investigating Hill-Hawkin's role in a nearby burglary, officers said at the time.

After the wreck, he fled on foot and was captured in a nearby backyard with the help of a police dog that bit him, officers said.

Hill-Hawkins was booked into the Shasta County jail on suspicion of evading officers, burglary and possessing methamphetamine.

Shasta County sheriff's Capt. Don Van Buskirk said Hill-Hawkins had been released after posting bail.
