Guided hikes and walks will be offered almost weekly throughout April and May at Horsetown-Clear Creek Preserve. Topics from plant identification to bird watching will be presented by experts on the walks leading through the preserve which runs along Clear Creek and Clear Creek Road. Children are welcome at all Horsetown-Clear Creek Preserve events. All events are free.
All events meet at the HCCP parking lot on Clear Creek Road, about 7 miles west of highway 273, just west of the Clear Creek Bridge at the orange gate. For information, call 241-2026.
April 24 , 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - 2010 Whole Earth & Watershed Festival
This environmental event at Redding City Hall & Sculpture Park is organized in part by Western Shasta Resource Conservation District. Children and youth activities planned. April 25, 1 p.m. - Native plant identification and uses
Join native Wintu Ted Dawson on a spring walk while he locates, identifies, and explains medicinal and general uses of native plants. Ted has been a consultant and provided technical support at Turtle Bay Museum for Native American exhibits.
May 8, 8 a.m. - Early bird watchers
Enjoy early morning bird watching with local expert Barbara Peck. Barbara has a Masters in Wildlife Biology and Ecology. She will point out birds and fascinate us with information about them. Bring your curiosity and, if possible, binoculars.
May 16, 10 a.m. - Close-up encounters with birds of prey
Shasta Wildlife Rescue works to rescue and rehabilitate these magnificent birds. When one is not a candidate to be released back to the wild, they are cared for by this non-profit organization. Through their educational outreach program you have the opportunity to see them up close and learn more about them.

I think there should be more events like these get kids more into the out doors and really caring about their envitonment... There should def. be more advertisings for these types of events... Most ppl don't know these things are going on
