The campground-themed party on Sorrel Street in Anderson took top prize in this year's National Night Out, held on Tuesday, Aug. 3. Anderson Police officers and city council members and city staff attended many of the parties, which all ended at about 7:30 p.m. this year.
"The best participation was over on Sorrel Street," Chief Dale Webb said, comparing the eight parties across town.
Although, it was the volunteers from the Citizens on Patrol that cast the votes for the Sorrel Street crew to win the barbecue grill donated by the Wal-Mart Superstore in Anderson.
Along Sorrel Street, home owners posted camping space numbers and pitched tents. Some put out their grills or fishing equipment as well.
Many of the parties held cookouts offering free food to their neighbors, and the Anderson Fire Protection District maintained its tradition of serving their freshly made ice cream.
