Anderson Police Officer Bryan Benson will wait until next month for his charges to be formally heard in court, as prosecutor Curtis Woods, a deputy district attorney, added charges to his case.
To review the amended charges against Benson, defense attorney Stephen Palazzo in Shasta County Superior Court on Aug. 12 requested the formal arraignment be postponed.
Benson now faces seven total charges: Kidnapping to commit rape, forcible rape, rape by threat of authority to arrest or deport, kidnapping, sexual battery by restraint, bribery and assault by public officer.
The new date for the formal arraignment was set for Sept. 17 at 8:30 p.m.
The charges Benson faces stem from allegations from an Anderson woman Benson transported to Shasta County Jail. The woman reported Benson raped her before taking her to the jail.

Thank you Mr Woodward for this report. These updated charges must have a possible sentence of more than the '11 years' earlier reported.

I wish to point out that the Redding Record Searchlight (I know, "same_owner") essentially 'buried' this news in an article which even failed to name Benson's Police Union-funded lawyer, but also failed to report the updated charges. Basically, the Record Searchlight left it's readers in the dark.

This is a terrible situation for the APD having to deal with the backlash from this disturbed person! I tip my hat to those continuing to do their jobs with a good attitude when such a mess is ongoing! I am confidant this miscreant will get his justice!

My prayers continue for the APD and the volunteers that work with them. They work very hard and its horrible some of the crud they get on the street now due to Benson's situation.
