After 40 years in Cottonwood, Doug Deese, owner of Deese Realtors, sold his business on Aug. 16 to Coldwell Realty Banker Steve Craft of Redding, Deese said in an interview on Monday.
The business initially started when Deese's mother, Jeanie Deese opened a realty office in her home. Doug Deese joined her by purchasing the property at 20767 Fourth St. for an office space a few years later.
Now named Coldwell Banker Craft and Deese Realtors, the business will expand by adding two new agents, according to Beth Strating, corporate administrator.
With the slumping economy, Strating said the expansion will be worthwhile in the long run.
"Real estate is a cyclical industry," she said. "What appears to be a slump will not continue to be forever."
Additionally, she expects an increase in interest for homes in Cottonwood.
"It'll grow," she said. "I don't know at what rate, but it will grow."
Doug Deese said he will continue to work as a licensee, but he will do it with an eye for retirement.
Deese said he is very involved with his church, Neighborhood Church of Anderson and Cottonwood, and wants to spend time in missionary work in the South County and abroad.
