Fire destroys shed, causes brief power outage for 1,450 in Churn Creek Bottom

A wooden shed covering several vehicles burned to the ground on Wednesday afternoon near 7448 Churn Creek Road. First reported at 12:02 p.m., firefighters from Cal Fire, Shasta County Fire Department and Anderson Fire Protection District responded to the blaze that threatened a nearby house.

Contained at about 12:30 p.m., the cause of fire was not yet known, according to John Erwin, Cal Fire battalion chief.

The fire also caused a transformer to fail, causing power to go out for 1,450 Pacific Gas and Electric customers, according to spokesman Paul Moreno. By 1:20 p.m., power was restored to all but six customers, he said.

Erwin added he could not yet estimate the cost of damages from the fire.
