Nathaniel Jenkins has a rough ride at world championships

Twelve year old Nathaniel Jenkins of Anderson, made his second trip to the World Finals in the senior steer riding.

Nathaniel, his Aunt Linda and Uncle Danny Lentz left Anderson on Tuesday, Aug. 3, and returned home to the North State on Sunday, Aug. 8 from Fort Worth, Texas.

Nathaniel got on all three of his steer and was soon bucked off. In open bull riding, Kaleb Johnson of San Jose placed forth in the world in the event.

"This years livestock was rank," said Nathaniel.

The first two go-rounds, 17 out of 66 riders rode their steer and in the third go-round, only seven held on.

One of the highlights of being at this year's World Finals was being able to ride some CBR's (Champion Bull Riding) bulls, said Nathaniel.

Upon his return to the area, Nathaniel was able to go out to Triple Creek Equestrian Center in Redding to talk about the sport of bull riding and about animal safety at one of their meetings. He will return to the center for their fundraising dinner in October.

As the 2010-2011 rodeo season starts, Nathaniel is planning on riding for the Western Regional Bull Riding Association, and to beging competing on the California High School Rodeo Association District I's Junior High School team. He will be compete in steer riding and team roping.

Nathaniel is a 7th grader at Anderson Middle School.

Nathaniel will be riding steer at the Red Bluff Junior Round Up on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11 and 12.
