Pastor Bill Miller of Paradise was recently called to serve Trinity United Methodist Church in Anderson by Warner H. Brown, Jr., Bishop of the United Methodist Church's California-Nevada Annual Conference.
Miller came to Trinity on July 1 and will be with the congregation for the next year as interim pastor.
Pastor Miller lives and works full time in Butte County for Adult Protective Services, working 40 hours a week. He has been at that job for the past 21 years. Debbie, Miller's wife of 16 years, is principal at Etna High School and has worked there for two years. The couple's daughter, Lindsey, 14, also lives in Etna with her mother. The family spends weekends together, from Friday to Sunday.
"Commuting to Anderson to preach is almost like being a Circuit Preacher from 100 years ago because of the traveling involved," said Pastor Miller.
Miller has been a Conference Lay Minister for the past year and a half through the United Methodist Church and is working on getting his license. He will attend a seminary program part-time at a university until he is 62. Upon retirement, Miller would like to preach full time. Miller was born in Arlington Heights, Illinois, and received his bachelor's degree in English from San Francisco State University.
