A changing of the guard at the Anderson Teen Center last week brings in Cody Goddard, 23, as the center's new senior project coordinator.

Melissa Peterson, the outgoing senior project coordinator, announced her plans to pursue a career in college advising.

"It's been an honest privilege to work in this community and at the teen center," Peterson said. "I've enjoyed working with these kids. I'm excited for what the (new) staff has to offer the kids."

Goddard comes to the teen center after working for the Boys and Girls Club of Chico as the male advisor. He also coached a baseball team of 9- to 10-year-olds.

In Anderson, Goddard said he wants to start a music program at the teen center to include lyric writing, recording, and producing music.

"I want to get more kids in the door and let the community see what their kids can do," he said.

A Foothill High School graduate, Goddard said he is pursuing a bachelors degree in business or music.

Every day, about 35 youth attend teen center activities after school in Anderson.
