Dallas Cowboys part ways with Matt Nichols to sign tight end

MATT NICHOLS

It was recently announced that the Dallas Cowboys have released fourth string quarterback Matt Nichols in order to make room on their roster for Martin Rucker, a tight end the Cowboys hope will help fill a key position riddled with injuries.

Nichols, 23, was signed to Dallas as an undrafted free agent from Eastern Washington University back in April. In his two pre-season games with the NFL team Nichols complete 10 of 16 passes (62.5 percent) for 81 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions.

It has not been announced at this time what Nichols plans are for the future or if other teams have taken an interest in him. After the NFL draft, held towards the end of April, there were three other teams looking at Nichols besides the Cowboys — the Oakland Raiders, Miami Dolphins, and Arizona Cardinals.

At this point in time Nichols, who is a West Valley graduate, is a free agent and can sign with whatever team he would like.
