A mountain lion was spotted Sunday, Aug. 29, sunning itself on the riverbank at the Anderson River Park on Sunday afternoon, Anderson Police Sergeant Bryan Van Dyke said. Although the report came from a resident living on the bluffs across the Sacramento river, Van Dyke said he doesn't question the report, which came in at about 3:15 p.m.
"It's a pretty common area (for mountain lions) to be in," he said. "The park is pretty huge."
A sheriff's department river patrol, already in the area, passed through the river park but did not immediately report any findings to Van Dyke.
Another mountain lion was sighted at the park a month ago, Van Dyke added.
"There are lots of deer down there and other things in their food chain," he said.
The department advised people enjoying the river park to be mindful of wildlife in the river park to be alert for potential hazards.
