The Lady Eagles hit the road to play Las Plumas down in Oroville last Thursday. While the temperature was 100-degrees, that didn't stop West Valley from winning 8-1 against the Lady Thunderbirds.
Taylor Needham took her Oroville opponent, Cassi Webber, in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Holly Dethero, Kaylin Miner, Natalie McAuliffe, and Eta Ecenbarger also won in straight sets.
West Valley player Amanda Richards played a tough match against Mary Roll. Richards won the first set 6-2, then Roll made a come back in a close second set, winning 6-4. The match went into a third set that was determined by a tiebreak because neither girl broke serve. Richards played hard, but lost the tiebreak 6-8 and the set 6-7.
The Lady Eagles junior varsity team, consisting of Anahi Trejo, Allison Hernandez, and Leah Hoffman, also swept their matches against the Lady Thunderbirds.
In doubles play, Needham and Richards served their opponents a 9-8 loss after winning the tiebreak 11-9. Dethero and Ecenbarger took their match 8-5, and Miner and McAuliffe won theirs 8-2.
Earlier in the week the girls traveled to Chico, but the match was cancelled. West Valley is 1-0 overall, with their first league match to be played against Corning.
