As a citizen descended from those forefathers "who sacrificed their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor" to establish the United States Constitution and freedom for Americans, I have been dismayed and angered as I watch and experience those freedoms being seized and taken away, when I see the Constitution destroyed by those sworn to uphold and defend it.
I am not alone in my concern.
During the past year, while liberal and progressive politicians of a Democrat persuasion launched attacks on our freedoms, common folks who know our history, who love and honor the Constitution, began sending tea bags to government leaders in protest. They gathered together in Tea Parties, trying to make themselves heard.
Instead of listening and heeding, the liberals attack and heap abuse on members of these Tea Parties and to any dissenters of their liberal spending and departure from Constitutional laws.
Those liberals obviously are or choose to be ignorant of U. S. history and the struggle American patriots made in the 1700s against tyranny, and "taxation without representation" that led to the Revolutionary War beginning in 1775.
At that time, England imposed exorbitant taxes on tea, making the colonists angry. Many refused to pay those taxes. Ship-loads of tea and other goods were refused. Some supplies were sent back to England. Some of the tea was stored and became moldy.
In 1771, colonists disguised as Indians boarded a ship in Boston Harbor and tossed the tea into the water. This was soon to be described by historians as The Boston Tea Party - a revolt against the tea taxes imposed on colonists.
Today's Tea Parties have adopted this act of rebellion as a rallying cry to protest high-handed government actions - the seizure of freedoms, properties, economy and rights guaranteed by our Constitution. The government tramples roughshod on citizen's rights.
The President, Congress, governors, all legislators and people in positions of power need to listen to and heed the people if the United States is to survive.
