Saturday Jan. 30 brought the end of the 2010 Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale, but along with the sale, comes the ever popular Buckin' Best Bull Riding Invitational also known as "Blood and Guts Bull Riding" to those who are familiar with the event.
This year at the event were North State residents Jay Foscalina, J.T. Davis and Keith Roquemore, all of Cottonwood. Though our Cottonwood boys didn't bring home the money, they have every reason to be proud of themselves to ride bulls that are of the highest quality, raised by Don Kish of Red Bluff.
After three long rounds of bull riding, the cowboys that were able to ride in the short go were Cody Brixy, Dwayne Hargo, Tyler Stueve, R.J. Kriege, Paul Poppini and Tommy Rice.
At the end of the short go, Tyler Stueve came out on top with 146 points on two bulls. His first ride of 79 points on No. 646 White Lie and his second ride being a 67 point ride. In the short go round, Steuve was offered a re-ride after his bull named No. 497 Shabang faulted him. He chose not to take it. None of the other bull riders made their eight seconds on their bulls.
Local FFA Students from West Valley and Anderson Union High School also had their own competition. The FFA Invitational Calf Scramble between seven different schools from Corning High School North to Foothill High School. Representing West Valley High School was Kayla Vasques and Josh Bohrn and for Anderson, was Shyanne Crosby and David Prior.
In between the short go and the third section of bull riding, a Ranch Bronc Riding Competition was held among cowboys from ranches around the area. Clay Damuth of Shasta Livestock Ranch won the competition. The cowboys were judged on time, style and how much the crowd in the arena liked their performance.
