Redding firm wins bid to complete North St. work

Anderson residents will soon see another round of construction along North Street as Phase II of the widening project tackles the incomplete west side of the roadway.

On a recommendation from Public Works Director Jeff Kiser, the Anderson City Council unanimously agreed to award a construction bid in the amount of $332,706.50 to Tullis, Inc., of Redding to widen the roadway by one traffic lane, install curbs, gutters, storm drains and sidewalks along the roadway's western perimeter and complete the construction project that will link North Street from Sharon Avenue to Riverside Drive, just south of the recently replaced North Street Bridge.

The project, which will be completely funded with SHASTEC redevelopment tax increment funds, was originally estimated by engineers to cost $490,000, Kiser noted. A total of 13 bids, ranging from the low of Tullis Inc. to a high of $497,074.

"Good job, Jeff," Mayor Norma Comnick quipped following the vote.

"It's a good contractor at a fair price," responded Kiser, who noted that bidders who owned the materials were low bidders.
