The West Valley boys played hard Friday night at Central Valley but were unable to hold off the Falcons in the second half.
The Eagles had a good start, leading at the end of the first quarter 12-6. Their full court press was giving Central Valley a difficult time, and they were struggling. While the Falcons came back to lead at the half, 23-21, it seemed like West Valley had them figured out.
By the end of the third quarter, it was a different game. Central Valley had figured out the Eagles, who were trailing and missing shots. The Falcons also had height on their side, using it to pull down rebounds.
By the fourth quarter, the Eagles had gone cold on offense while Central Valley continued to get the ball to net. In the end West Valley (3-3 NAL) put up a good fight, but lost to the Falcons 62-40.
Garrett Phelps had eight points and Tyler Stevenson had seven. West Valley hosted Anderson on Tuesday and will travel to Lassen to take on the Grizzles Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Corning 59,<B> Anderson 43</B>
Anderson traveled to Corning to take on the Cardinals. After a close first half, the Cubs were unable to hold-on in the second half, giving up 21 points in the fourth quarter.
Jeff Catron had 14 points for the Cubs and Zach Guibergia had 10.
Anderson (1-5 NAL) traveled to West Valley on Tuesday and will host Central Valley Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
Girls Basketball
West Valley 56,<B> Central Valley 53</B>
After going back and forth a few times, the West Valley girls varsity basketball team was able to hold off the Falcons in the final few minutes of the game, giving them a 56-53 win over Central Valley.
For most of the game the Lady Eagles held off Central Valley, who started to make their come back in the third quarter and were leading going into the forth. But it would be West Valley who would hold on this time for a win against their rivals.
Paige Adkins had 17 points, Ashley Vitellaro scored 14 points, Jaycea McGrew added 10 points, and Amy Westaby contributed nine points.
Corning 52,<B> Anderson 37</B>
The Lady Cubs struggled against the Cardinals for most of the night, never really able to find their rhythm. Corning took was able to take advantage of a struggling Anderson for the win.
Anderson (4-2 NAL) hosted West Valley on Tuesday night, and will travel to Central Valley on Friday night to take on the Falcons at 7:30 p.m.
