Zach Gibbins recently signed with Concord University in West Virginia. The 5-foot-10, 240-pound linebacker is transferring from Shasta College to play for Concord.
According to a press release, Gibbins chose Concord because it gives him the "opportunity to take the program to the next level, and it's a quality institution."
"Zach will bring a physical presence and dominating play at linebacker. He's a seasoned and accomplished player who should make an immediate impact on our defense," said CU Linebacker Coach Paul Price in a press release.
In 2009, Gibbins was 1st Team All-Region and was the top tackler out of 70 of California's junior colleges. He made the 1st Team All-Bay Valley Conference in 2008 and 2009 and was the league's Defensive MVP in 2008.
Gibbins graduated from Anderson Union High School in 2007. He has plans to major in Mathematic at Concord.
Matt Nichols looking for try-out
According to Greg Grandell, varsity head football coach for West Valley High School, it doesn't appear that his former player Matt Nichols will be invited to a combine. Instead his agent is working to get him a try-out with a team.
"In a way it's a blessing he didn't invited to a combine," said Grandell. "There are 17 quarterbacks trying out and only five being drafted."
Grandell went on to add that Nichols will be able to research teams and see what they are looking for in a quarterback, he also listed the Oakland Raiders as a possible team for consideration.
According to Grandell, they are trying to get a hold of Marty Schottenhiemer, Nichols coach in the East-West Shrine game, and see if he can help them in anyway.
"He did really well (in the East-West Shrine game) and we are very proud of him," said Grandell.
