Daniel Rodriguez, the New York City "singing policeman," gained fame after Sept. 11, 2001, when he sang the national anthem and patriotic songs at various sporting events immediately following the terrorist attacks on the twin towers.

Due to illness, the Shasta Community Concert Association has rescheduled a performance of America's "singing policeman" Daniel Rodriguez to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 8, in the Redding Convention Center.

Rodriguez was originally slated to appear Thursday, Feb. 18, but fell ill prior to his arrival in Redding the previous evening, concert organizers said.

"My wife and I were supposed to have dinner with him Wednesday night and we waited and waited at the restaurant," said James Yarbrough of Anderson, whose wife Janet Applegarth-Yarbrough is president of the concert association.

The Yarbroughs eventually received a call from Rodriquez' booking agent, who notified them that the singer had taken sick at a previous concert appearance and was hospitalized overnight at that location, he said.

All subscriber and single concert tickets for the Feb. 18 concert will be honored at the replacement performance, said Jane Wittmann, director of marketing for the association.

Rodriquez, a tenor, became famous following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center twin towers in New York City. He sang rousing renditions of "God Bless America" and the national anthem at many sports venues on the East Coast in the months following.
