In the first quarter, the Eagles shot past Yreka, scoring 26 points to their nine, and they would keep it going from there, going on to beat the Miners 65-42.
West Valley (No.5) put up the majority of their points in the first half, leading 45-23 at the half. Yreka tried to make a come back late in the game, but the Eagles had created such a deficit for the Miners, that it just wasn’t possible.
The Eagles had 11 players hit the hoop for points. Tyler Stevenson led West Valley with 19 points, followed by Casey Duenas with eight. Brad Wion and Derrick Barrie each scored seven points.
West Valley will travel down to No. 4 Sutter for Friday’s 7 p.m. game in the Division IV quarterfinal.
Mount Shasta 66, Anderson 48
The Cubs came out slow and struggled all evening against the No. 6 Bears. Anderson only scored five points in the first quarter compared to Mount Shasta’s 20.
Anderson (No. 11) started to hit their shots as the game progressed. Jeff Catron led the Cubs in scoring with 23 points, but it wasn’t enough, Anderson just could not shut down the Bears.
This loss marks the end of the Cub’s basketball season.
