The Cubs had a busy night, challenging Winters early on to keep up with them.

Anderson’s boys varsity basketball team took the non-league game against the Warriors as a way to get out from under their recent five-game losing streak before meeting league opponents Corning on Friday night.

The Cubs struggled through most of the first quarter against Winters, at one point they were down by seven points. Then Larry Newman, Anderson’s coach, made a decision to switch from man-to-man coverage to zone, which made all the difference for the Cubs.

Going into the half, Anderson led the Warriors 26-19. Hitting the court for the second half, Winters was never able to recapture the lead, while Anderson continued to add points on the board and distance from the Warriors.

The Cubs went on to an 18-point victory, 54-36, over Winters.
