Anderson man injured in SUV solo rollover

An Anderson man suffered moderate injuries late Wednesday afternoon in an SUV roll-over on Deschutes Road near Balls Ferry Road southeast of town.

Ricky L. Vinzant, 49, was driving south-bound on Deschutes in a 1989 Ford Bronco II approaching Balls Ferry at 4:40 p.m. when he apparently failed to notice the motorist in front of him was slowing to turn right, California Highway Patrol spokesman Jason Dotzenrod said.

Vinzant swerved to the right at the last minute, lost control of the SUV, left the roadway, hit a sign and overturned, Dotzenrod said.

An ambulance rushed Vinzant to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, where he is listed in serious condition today.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the wreck, according to CHP investigating officer Ken Tidwell, who submitted a written report.

The wreck blocked traffic for roughly an hour, Tidwell said.
