West Valley wins at Anderson

Anderson hosted their rival West Valley last night, in what would be the Cubs second heartbreakingly close Northern Athletic League loss.

Anderson (0-2 NAL, 6-12) started the match out strong, leading West Valley (1-1 NAL, 8-10) for much of the first half. The Eagles had a slim lead over the Cubs in the second quarter, but it was short lived. Anderson led 30-24 at the half.

Then going into the third quarter, West Valley kicked it up a notch and started to cut down Anderson’s lead. At one point in the third, the Cubs tied the game at 38, but the Eagles moved ahead.

Anderson started to look tired in the middle of the third quarter, and West Valley used it to their advantage. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Eagles were able to hold onto their slight lead for a 53-50 victory.

For Anderson, Zach Gubergia had 16 points and Dusan Nikolic had 12 points.

West Valley’s Tyler Stevenson had 11 points, also the results for Russell Flower’s knee injury came back and he has an ACL injury, which will keep him from playing for the rest of the season.

Anderson 58, West Valley 53

The West Valley varsity girls had a difficult time against the Cubs, trailing for most of their game. Then in the fourth quarter they seemed to come alive, and started to chip away at Anderson's lead.

Mareigh Ostrom and Amy Westaby both had 12 points for the Eagles, and teammate Ashley Vitellaro recorded 10. West Valley is 0-2 in the NAL, 4-13 overall.

For Anderson, Megan Leitem had 14 points, Emily English had 13 points, and Raschel Noble had 10 points. The Cubs are now 1-1 in the NAL, 10-8 overall.
