A barn is fully engulfed in flames July 6 on Kimberly Road south of Anderson

Bob Kearns awoke at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, July 6, smelling smoke at his Kimberly Road residence. After putting on his glasses and parting the curtains to look outside, he spotted flames coming off the south end of his neighbor's barn, only 90 yards from his home. He immediately alerted his wife to call 911, and she reported the barn was fully engulfed.

"It went up that fast," Kearns said.

The barn at 21877 Kimberly Rd. was full of hay, Cal Fire Captain Joe Roberson said. Among drawing fire personnel from several fire fighting agencies, a bull dozer was also required to turn over the burning hay, he said. No additional acreage beyond the structure caught fire, but the structure was demolished, Roberson said, unsure of the cost of the total loss.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause is under investigation, he said.

Fire personnel and engines responded to the blaze from Shasta County Fire Department, Cal Fire, Anderson and Cottonwood fire protection districts and Bella Vista and Palo Cedro volunteer fire companies, Roberson said.

Crews worked until 8 a.m. to clear the area of fire danger.
