Sharron St.John-Grayson realized her dream of becoming a cosmetologist at the young age of nine. Her mother told her to take care of her hair or she would cut it.
At eleven years old St. John-Grayson gave her first hair cut to her mother. When St. John-Grayson was 14 years old and attending Baldwin Park High School, she started beauty school through the Regional Occupations Program at Merinello's School of Beauty.
Within two years, St. John-Grayson was a licensed cosmetologist.
After getting her cosmetology license, St. John-Grayson worked at Super Cuts in Arcadia, near Pasadena as a shop manager.
In 1997, St. John-Grayson moved to Shasta County with her mother to raise her children in a quiet atmosphere and enjoy a slower pace of life than the city had to offer. After moving to Shasta County, St. John-Grayson worked at Beauty and the Beach and Madison Avenue hair salons, before purchasing Barbary Coast four and a half months ago, which is located behind Kragan Auto Parts on Balls Ferry Road in Anderson.
She then renamed it St. John's Barbary Coast. St. John-Grayson works Monday through Saturday and has one other stylist working in her shop, Romero Marquez. St. John -Grayson has been a licensed cosmetologist for the past 27 years.
St. John-Grayson's favorite styles are a men's High and Tight Fade, she also has a love of braiding hair. Her customers that come into the shop are return customers, referrals from other customers and walk-ins.
"It was kind of a culture shock moving here from Southern California, but I love the atmosphere and the people," said St. John-Grayson.
In her spare time, St. John-Grayson enjoys spending time with her family and crocheting.
