West Valley soccer teams take second at sections

The West Valley boys and girls soccer teams traveled to Corning and Susanville Saturday Feb. 27 respectively, to play in the final round of the Section Championships.

The boys lost to Corning 0-5 in a game that was played on the sunny Saturday among a mass of mud, with the field conditions being what they were, the Eagles were unable to move the ball down field towards the goal.

In their semi-final game against Lassen on Tuesday, Feb. 23, the West Valley boys won 7-1. Ray Close scored three of the seven goals and had two assists. Harold Stacy scored two goals, one of which was assisted by Ray Close, the other by Cody Waterman. Curtis Merkel and Pat Muller also had one goal each.

The Lady Eagles didn't fair much better in their game against Lassen, falling 2-4 in their Division I Championship game. They scored one goal in each half of the game with Lassen not scoring until the second half.

TJ Lambert and Holly Dethero both scored for West Valley.

On Tuesday, Feb. 23, the West Valley girls played Las Plumas of Oroville in their semi-final game, winning 6-2 with Taylor Lambert scoring two goals, and Holly Dethero, Amiee Miramontes, Bailey Marchand and Taylor Moebes each scoring one goal.
