The Cubs baseball team traveled down to Oroville to compete in the Oroville Tournament over the weekend.
"We had a rocky start to the tournament, losing to Red Bluff 10-0 and Corning 21-0 on Thursday," said Dan Tating, Anderson's baseball coach. "Dalton Gurney had the only hit against Red Bluff and Jeff Hotchkiss had the only hit (a two-base run) against Corning. We bounced back on Saturday with a 13-7 win against Sutter."
In their first game against a Division II opponent, Anderson went up 2-0 in the first inning, and both teams remained scoreless in the second inning. Then Anderson scored another three runs and the Huskies finally put two runs up in the third.
The Cubs wouldn't score again until the sixth inning when they would add another four runs to their lead. By the seventh inning Anderson had extended their lead with four more runs.
The Huskies started rallying back, putting up four runs of their own, but the Cubs shut them down.
Cody Payne, Jake Bell, Trevor Scott and Shawn Greene all scored two runs a piece, with Greene hitting the only homerun for Anderson. Teammates Casey Meyer, Dalton Gurney, Charles Edwards, Steven Webb and Jeff Hotchkiss all scored one run each for Anderson.
Big Blue will compete in the Foothill Tournament this week at Foothill High School. The tournament started on the 16th and will wrap up on the 19th.
