Honing in on a variety of family entertainment at Hawes Farms, Greg Hawes opened the South County agri-tainment center Oct. 1 for another season.

This year's 10-acre corn maze features a locomotive. Other farm attractions include train rides, pumpkin patch, pizza farm, pig races and a goat walk.

The farm will show movies on weekend nights and feature a variety of special events, including Rail History Weekend Oct. 16-17, Harvest Arts Fair Oct. 23 and a Dutch oven cook-off Oct. 30. Contests include a scarecrow and painted pumpkins.

Yet another haunted house was added to the farm's burgeoning repertoire for thrill seekers. The Carnival of Fear is a clown-based haunt with a number of surprises including scented rooms. At night, the Carnival of Fear will also include costumed actors.

Haunts from previous years will also make their return, the Field of Screams, Dread Shed and Buried Alive. All haunts open at nightfall. The Carnival of Fear will be open, without actors, during the daytime.
