Traffic safety a hot topic in Cottonwood

Following the recent traffic fatality on Gas Point Road, it was little wonder that traffic safety ranked high among the questions put to county authorities at the Cottonwood town hall meeting on Thursday.

California Highway Patrol Captain Jerry Flavin acknowledged complaints of speeding cars on Gas Point Road and cell phone use by drivers, saying that officers will look improve enforcement.

Resident Vince Dunn was curious about traffic issues as well, but he said he was especially concerned with how planned residential developments will impact traffic in town.

According to Minturn, Panorama Planned Development, the 430-home project by Romar Homes, Inc. is still completing its draft Environmental Impact Report. The project, Minturn said, still requires a wastewater study.

Representative for Romar Homes, Mark Rychlik, was not immediately available for comment on Friday.
