Motorcyclist arrested in Cottonwood after high speed chase

A Redding man was arrested early Tuesday morning, Sept. 7, after leading sheriff's deputies on a high speed pursuit through Happy Valley and Cottonwood, Sergeant Jason Gassaway said in a telephone interview Sept. 7.

A deputy initially tried to contact a motorcyclist at 1 a.m. on Olinda Road near Anderson Union High School on a registration violation, Gassaway said. The driver, Redding resident Sean Obar, 37, sped away from the officer. With California Highway Patrol joining the pursuit, the chase turned south on Happy Valley Road and east on Gas Point Road into Cottonwood, reaching speeds of 90 to 100 mph, Gassaway said.

The driver ultimately fled to his girlfriend's residence on Klove Court, where he dropped his bike in a shed and entered the house.

In pursuit, Deputy Pam Depuy located Obar and arrested him at about 1:30, Gassaway said.

No one was injured in the pursuit, Gassaway said.
