“Candice Asnicar has submitted her letter of resignation to the County Superintendent of Schools effective September 2, 2010,” stated a newsletter sent out by Steve Mitrovich, superintendent of Pacheco Union School District, on Friday, Sept. 3.
According to Ed Code, the school board must decide to either call for a special election or provisionally appoint a replacement within 60 days of the effective date of the resignation. According to Mitrovich, the board will decide which course of action to take at the next board meeting on Wednesday, Sept 15.
Asnicar has served on the Pacheco school board for nine years. According to an email from Mitrovich received Sept. 7, Asnicar did not state a reason for her resignation.
Mitrovich said that if the board decides to appoint someone to the position provisionally that they will pick someone during the Wednesday, Sept. 22 special meeting.
In an email sent Sept. 8, Mitrovich said that as of right now only one person had applied for the board seat.
Kathy Mongold resigned her board seat on Aug. 17 and the board had decided at their August meeting to appoint someone provisionally. The board then decided to hold a special board meeting on Sept. 22 to fill Mongold’s seat.
Should the Pacheco school board decide to appoint two people provisionally to the board seats, those people will serve until next year’s election and then if they so choose can run for the seats along with other qualified members of the community. Whoever is elected to those seats will then serve out the remainder of the term, which is two years.
“Candice was a leader in the effort by the district to pass Measure B,” said Mitrovich in his newsletter. “She provided great leadership during times of great transition and uncertainty in the district. Her leadership and her commitment to the Pacheco Union School District will be missed.”
