Lightning causes power outage for 3,900 in Anderson, Cottonwood

About 3,900 customers in south Anderson and Cottonwood lost electrical power on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8, when lightning struck a third-party substation, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Spokesperson Nicole Liebelt in a telephone interview Sept. 9.

Power was initially lost at 2:15 p.m. and all customers received power again at 7:18 p.m., Liebelt said.

The company isolated the substation from the power grid and was able to reroute power to the surrounding area, she said.
