Clothing and other items started piling-up on Friday for victims of the Sept. 1 fire in Cottonwood that left two families without homes. The fundraiser at Clean Rite Build Rite on North Hirsch Court in Anderson garnered many bags of gently-used clothing, food, new bedding and some cookware.
"We're wanting to give them a fresh start," said Angie Burris, marketing representative, who said the business will accept donations for the family during business hours through Oct. 8.
During the weekend, donations are accepted at Junk ‘n' Treasures on Highway 273, said owner Wanda Leach, who greeted people at the fundraiser.
If more donations are raised than the two families can use, then they will be offered to victims of other fires, Burris said.
Burris stressed that donations of new items are especially welcome. Used items will be accepted if they are in good condition, she said.
The cause of the Sept. 1 blaze is still under investigation by the Cottonwood Fire Protection District, according to Rodney Chadbon, district administrator.
