Three large storage tanks, each with a 20,000-gallon capacity, were set in place at a bulk fuel transfer facility on Hirsch Court by Redding Oil Company last week.
Valued at over $750,000, the facility will hold two grades of gasoline and two types of diesel fuel for the company to distribute to local consumers, said Chris Reiser, company controller. Reiser said he hopes the facility will be operational in November, but said the facility must first pass inspection.
Kaleidoscope Coffee very near opening
A newly built coffee shop on North Street with two drive-thru lanes and outside seating is tentatively set to open on Oct. 2, according to owner Dan Burton. Calling it Kaleidoscope Coffee Co., Burton said the business will provide coffee roasted by Straw House Coffee in Junction City.
The coffee shop will be provided its own signature blend, which will be roasted six pounds at a time, Burton said. The business will also sell Millville Bakery pastries.
A superintendent for Sunrise Excavating and Paving for seven years, Burton said he's tired of construction work and always wanted to try his hand with a coffee shop.
"When I was a little kid, I loved making coffee for people," he said.
Burton, 45, said he will open the business each morning, but has hired eight part-time employees.
As a side business, Burton said he has built hundreds of custom race car seats for go karts and sprint cars. He also enjoys playing guitar with his son, who plays drums.
From his love of music, Burton said he plans to donate 5 percent of his profits to music programs in Anderson schools.
Located at 2258 North St., the coffee shop will be open Sunday-Thursday from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday to Saturday, 6 a.m.- 11 p.m. For more information, contact the business at 378-2675.
Los Amigos Meat Market
The floor is tiled and the walls are painted, but the Los Amigos Meat Market is still about two weeks away from opening, owner Jesús Bautista said Thursday.
With another meat market, taqueria and taco truck in Red Bluff, Bautista said his Anderson location will offer customers a variety of seasoned beef, chicken and pork cuts prepared for grilling.
"We will cut meat fresh everyday, and people can buy it by the pound," he said.
Bautista added that he uses his own seasoning mix that will make his carne asada different from anywhere else.
Located in Anderson at 2650 Gateway Dr. in the Gateway Center, the market will also offer a variety of seasonings and condiments used in traditional Mexican cuisine, Bautista said.
Trophy Traditions goes mobile
After holding down a storefront for 20 years, an established trophy shop in Cottonwood will vacate its Main Street address to evolve into a mobile business. After purchasing Trophies by Martin in December, 2009, Paul Vietti, the owner of Trophy Traditions, said he moved the business to his Cottonwood home and will operate the business as a delivery service.
"I've learned it's more of a service business than it is a store-front business," Vietti said of creating trophies and plaques for schools and clubs during the last six months.
The shop at 3318 Main Street was something of a hole-in-the-wall, he said, adding that customers don't walk by the place and decide to buy a trophy.
"After being there six months, I didn't think it (the location) brought enough to justify the rent," he said.
The business already delivers much of its products as a courtesy, but Vietti said he will begin to market the business as a delivery service.
The business provides trophies, medals, ribbons, and engraving services for gifts such as clocks and ink pens.
Vietti is refurbishing his garage to make a shop at 3546 Oak Lane, but also operates a Web site at www.trophytraditions.com. The telephone number is 347-3730.
