A trial date for former Anderson Police Officer Bryan Robert Benson was announced Friday at a formal arraignment hearing. While an additional settlement conference is scheduled on Dec. 20, Benson will otherwise face a jury trial in court on Feb. 8, 2011 for allegedly raping an Anderson woman placed in his custody as an officer on May 29.

Maintaining his plea of not guilty before Shasta County Superior Court Judge James Ruggiero, Benson stood quietly with his lawyer as his trial date was set.

Benson was dismissed from the Anderson police force on Aug. 20 following an internal investigation. Captain Robert Kirvin, who carried out the internal investigation, has been present in the audience at each of Benson's court appearances.

Charges against Benson include kidnapping to commit rape, forcible rape, rape by threat of authority to arrest or deport, kidnapping, sexual battery by restraint, bribery and assault by public officer.

Benson was also scheduled to appear for trial readiness on Feb. 4.
