Cottonwood sidewalk sale planned

Businesses in Cottonwood will participate in the first-ever Town Wide Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, Oct. 2, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Over 20 participating businesses in the sale are located on Front Street, Main Street, and on Gas Point Road near the Holiday Quality Foods, according to event organizer Dianna Cunningham.

Some businesses that do not have items displayed outside will still have items on sale inside, she added.

"Everybody wants to do something, but they haven't specified what they're going to do," Cunningham said on Wednesday in a telephone interview last week.

The event, which is put on by the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce, will strive to remind people to shop in Cottonwood, she said.

"Our motto is going to be shop local for the sidewalk sale," said Cheri Skudlarek, chamber president.

"It seems people are spending less, and we're working on a campaign to get people to spend locally," Cunningham, a co-owner of the Dragonfly gift shop, said of Cottonwood businesses.

Skudlarek added that the chamber will eventually coordinate a day when Cottonwood businesses stay open later, in order to encourage Cottonwood residents who work out of town to do their shopping locally.

Involved in the sale are two new stores in Cottonwood on Front Street, Trendz and C.L. Collectibles, Cunningham said. Dragonfly co-owner Mary O'Keeffe also organized the Sidewalk Sale, she added.
