Even memorial markers receive Christmas wreaths and bows during the Wreaths Across America ceremony that was held at noon Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo.

Nearly 350 people attended a special ceremony to decorate grave markers and memorials Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo.

As part of the Wreaths Across America program, dozens of school children and youths in various organizations including FFA, 4-H, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls and Frontier Girls joined survivors of veterans to place a Christmas wreath on each grave marker, memorial and columbaria, said Stephen Jorgensen, administrator of the state-run cemetery.

The public placed 1,600 wreaths, Jorgensen said.

The Wreaths Across America ceremony was first observed at the cemetery in 2007 with only a handful of participants, Jorgensen said. Last year, nearly 1,000 wreaths were placed and more than 150 people participated in a brief ceremony prior to the wreath laying.
