Anderson High and Middle schools vandalized

Vandals hit both Anderson High and Anderson Middle schools the evening of Saturday, Nov. 19.

According to Anderson High principal Scott Booth, they hit the Cub campus around 5:30 p.m. before moving down to the middle school around 7:30 p.m.

“AMS has pretty good footage… We have great footage of the actual vandalism, but not the vandals in the act. The middle school has great footage of the perpetrators on their campus,” stated Booth.

Booth added that none of the students involved attend Anderson High School.

Ten windows were broken at the high school, with the estimated cost of damage coming in around $2,500, said Booth.

Initial reports from the Record Searchlight estimated the damage at the high school to be around $3,000 and $2,000 at the middle school.

Booth also discussed how the surveillance footage from the high school was able to create a timeline and establish that the same people who broke the windows on his campus also broke the windows at the middle school below.

“We have great footage of them coming onto campus and were able to use that to establish a timeline and verify that it was the same group,” said Booth.

According to Harley North, interim-superintendent of Cascade Union Elementary School District, the middle school security camera were able to capture clear images of the culprits, however, to his knowledge, they had not been identified yet.

“They tried to kick-in a door and broke several windows,” stated North. He said the district’s maintenance supervisor estimated the total cost of damage at $800.

North added that same weekend someone spray painted “major” graffiti at the Meadow Lane campus.

“We don’t know if the broken windows and graffiti are related, but I think if it had been the same group we would have found broken windows too,” said North.

The superintendent said the cost of labor and paint was between $200 and $300.
