Cubs' softball banner goes missing, reappears

Until last week, the Anderson Cubs girls softball banner featuring the 2011 team and some of their sponsors was hanging in the gym. It disappeared one day last week only to reappear several days later hanging in the foyer of the gym over the entrance/exit.

This caused some uproar amongst family members and the team, who did not know that their banner was being taken down and were not sure if it would be put back up.

Both Natalie and Charley Hawkins took to Facebook, posting about the banner’s disappearance, garnering support from their social media network to put the banner back up in the gym.

Each of their posts gathered dozens of comments, with many speculating jealousy from other coaches to lack of pride in the girls softball program.

According to Principal Scott Booth, the high school considers the banner a title banner, so it was moved to the gym foyer, known as the Hall of Fame. Booth said it was re-hung in the foyer because that is where the other section title banners are.

When asked if the banners in the gym were sponsor banners, Booth answered simply, “There were some sponsors on the bottom of the (softball) banner, but we considered it a section banner and put it up 30 feet away from where it was to the Hall of Fame.”
